JANUARY MEETING HIGH LIGHTS

Your January meeting was well attended, we had a wonderful turnout and the evening program was wonderful. Dan Kowalski gave a great show. He brought everyone up to date on what is happening with the Aspinal Unit operations and how their operations are affecting the trout fishery in the Gorge.
Dan talked about the fish history in the Gunnison basin from 1908 until now. How the population has been affected for the past 20 years. This is all part of how the DOW will handle the fishery for the future.
The DOW may need our help this spring  at the East Portal in moving fish from the dam to the diversion. The reason for this is because of stopping the flow of water from the dam so that it can be inspected for damage. Dan will keep us informed if he will need the help and the call will go out for help from us. If you would like to get on the call list for volunteering for this call Marshall, 970-249-4783 or Ed, 970-835-3679.

GGA DONATION
Your club also donated, at the meeting, $200.00, from the raffle account, to “Catch a Fish Program”. This program is supported by the San Juan Healthcare Foundation. The program takes people with cancer fishing. The program cover’s the whole valley area. This is a volunteer operation and they are always looking for help in taking people with cancer fishing. If you feel you would like to help or want more information, call Doug Tea at 970-240-1213.

BLACK CANYON FLY FISHING SHOW
Your show is coming along. The committee is working hard to have a great show, something you can be proud of. We will have our Friday night wine tasting, horsdoeuvres, casual fashion show and information on selecting wines.

Larry Kingrey Arkansas River guide ties at last years Black Canyon Fly Fishing Show. Home of the best fly fishing show in Western Colorado.
Our main personality for this year’s show is, Bob Jacklin from West Yellowstone, Montana. Bob is a well known fly fisher, and Master Certified Fly casting instructor, co-authored a book, “Fly Fishing the
Yellowstone in the Park” with the late Gary LaFontaine. Bob will be doing fly tying demos and casting demos Saturday. He will be doing the evening program for the banquet, “Yellowstone Sampler”. Bob is looking forward to coming to our show and meeting you.

If you would like to help with the show give a committee member a call. Ed Kehoe, 970-835-3679, general help. Tony Chelf, 970-325-4074, raffle and bucket sales. Dave Pipkin, 970-856-8741, kids program. Kurt Zelanzy, 970-209-5466, fly tiers. If you can help please do. This year we are giving fishing shirts with our club logo on them for all volunteers.

THE BOAT IS GONE!

The boat that our club purchased is sold. Matt from Hotckiss was the lucky man. He said he was looking forward to using it a lot this summer and the future. He is an avid fly fisherman and fly tier. I, being the nice guy I am, gave him an application form for TU and FFF, let’s hope he becomes one of us and can enjoy the friendship of our club.
