FLOAT STOCKING ON THE GUNNISON

On October 18th a joint effort between the DOW, GGA and GVA, 66,000 Hofer fingerlings were planted in the Gunnison River from the Smith Fork down to the confluence with the North Fork.

The Hofer is a whirling disease resistant strain of rainbows.  This was a two stage project, 1st was the clipping of the adipose fin, the small fin a third of the way up from the tail, was done at the Rifle Falls fish hatchery, then the planting in the river. It is hoped that with plantings such as this that the Gunnison can be repopulated with healthy rainbows.  This is the 4th year that we, as a club, have helped stock the rainbows and a great deal of thanks goes to Gale Doudy for starting this great effort.  It took a lot of effort and time from him four years ago to get the fish and start the program. He still takes time off from work to help.  Thanks Gale!  We need to thank all the volunteers that put in time and equipment to make it the great success it is.

Come to the meeting on November 15, at 7pm at the DMEA in Montrose to find out how successful all your work has been.

Thanks again to all the great volunteers  from both chapters.

GGA HAS NEW WEB SITE!!!

Your club now has a Web Site so you can go and see what is going on with your club.  It has great photos of fishing and information on many things.  Please give Gale Doudy a great thank you for starting this up and doing all the work, it’s a great site.

We will no longer send out the Newsletter as cost are getting out of site, but it will be on the Web site at, gunnisongorgeanglers.org   Please put this site in your Favorites.  Call me if you have any questions. (970) 835-3679

CATCH A FISH PROGRAM

The FFF and TU are having a fund raiser dinner in Denver on January 5th, 2008 for a new project called “Project Healing Waters”.  This program teaches wounded veterans to fly fish, tie flies and takes them on fishing outings.  Already in 36 cities they want to kick off the program in Denver, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction.  Profits from the dinner and auction will be used to support PHW.

The various dinner committees could use your help. If you can please call Don Gibbs, the FFF co-chair at (303) 526-9256 or e-mail him at ddgibbs@ecentral.com.

This dinner will take place after the Fly Show at the Denver Merchandise Mart at 6pm.

MEANDERING STRIKES and BITES

GGA MEETING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 15TH

Our end of Summer meeting will be at DMEA in Montrose.  November 15th at 7:00pm. Our special program will be “Adventures in the Pursuit of Trout” presented by Bob Burk.

Trekking through Chile and Goatpacking in Colorado Wilderness. This will be a very interesting presentation.

We will also have a Update on the Hofer Rainbow Project.

Come to the meeting a lets talk about our fishing adventures we had this summer and have some fun.

    See you there!

Summer picnic and river cleanup

Our summer picnic and river cleanup was a great success. We had a great bunch of volunteers and they did a fantastic job. The clean up was on the Gunnison River between the new boat ramp and the Confluence of the North Fork and the Gunnison. A lot of trash was picked up.

The picnic part was eventful to say the least. Our cook (me) ran out of propane (with two bottles) and had to make a mad dash to Delta and get a full one and get back (45 min’s) so everyone could enjoy the barbeque lunch. I’m sorry I don’t have any photo’s as I lost them. Thanks to everyone.

NEW 08 EXPO CHAIRPERSON

Here we are talking about our 08 EXPO in September, but I have too. Gale Doudy, who has been our leader for so many years and doing a fantastic job, has retired from doing the show.  I was his co-chair last year and will try and follow in his foot steps this coming year.  I need help and am looking for someone who will co-chair with me for our up coming EXPO.  I can tell you, with two people working together it makes the job much easer and a lot more fun.

If you think you would like being a co-chairperson and help head up the EXPO, please give me a call and lets talk. I’ll give you all the information and you can make up your mind if it’s what you want to do. It’s a very rewarding experience.

Thank you in advance for your interest.

YOUR HELP NEEDED

We need some volunteers for the Christmas Holiday Party.  We need food ticket seller, raffle setup, bucket sales and clean up. If you have been to the parties in the past you know how little work it is and how much fun you can have. Give me a call, thank you.  Ed Kehoe, 970-835-3679
